The Good Ship SNL

As Saturday Night Live approaches its half-century mark of making us spit our soda out of our nostrils, let’s reflect on all the people who have come and gone.

We all grew up with SNL, and the show has gone from very funny, to very not-so-funny, many times. It has even been through times that were incredibly insightful, and some that are utterly impenetrable.

They have always had more representation of males than females on the show. They have always had more white people than people of other colors. There has never been equal LGBTQ + representation on the show, but I suspect this is changing. They have gone from utterly goofball and silly to partisan, and sometimes pandering.

All of this is good.

Comedy, like life itself, must continually change, adapt, and evolve.

It is amazing that Lorne Michaels has been at the helm for all 48 seasons. He is perhaps the anchor, of the swaying, shifting, good ship SNL.
