Although addiction is not the correct word in many cases, the food system, like our health system, is very damaging not just to human body, but to biodiversity. Packaging and plastic end up in our waste stream, there are whole monocultures of crops, there is factory farming, zoonotics, and little choice.
Fat, grease, and sugar are more addictive than they are nutritious. Finally, because of heat islands and food deserts, a large chunk of who pays the highest costs for all this requires scrutiny.
Those who live in a disposable, 'convenience' based world are not told the externalized costs--and the rapidly arising limits to resources.
