…Don’t know what you got till it’s gone
Like a planet disintegrating before our very eyes, the war on women has crept in incrementally, steadily, inexorably. You may not be shocked, but if you are not very enraged, you are living in a bubble world about to burst.
There are many times in life when we are distracted by all the wrong things. Then, you wake up one day and there is not world enough, and time. Exploitation of the vulnerable has always been thus. It is true of native peoples, plants, planets, and now potential handmaids of Gilead.
One day, says the old Native American proverb, you will see you cannot eat money. “…And don’t it always seem to go that you don’t know what you got till it’s gone?” Says some old timey folk song.
Some of the exploited and marginalized have fought back. We still do. But not nearly enough men are feminists, and not nearly enough ‘Jesus is a social justice warrior’ type Christians have stood up to defend the very concept of equality itself.
