Find love on Earth, for it’s the only way
Find freedom where you can, it lights each dim doorway

You may have found love. But, ardent voices chirp and chatter
Tradition says marry, Father says “it doesn’t matter”

Aunt Betty says, “Have kids soon, while you have the energy”
Uncle Jax says, “Wait!” He says, “You must weave a mature synergy.”

And I’m not sure that I want kids, “Teaching school is tough enough”
My partner struggles through med school, and that is pretty rough

You’ll find yourself in the corridor, and uncertain where to go
That’s when a flicker of freedom lights the way to where you know

The idea that sparks is feminism, if we find equal footing, equal say, Questions! Marriage, jobs, and kids? Let’s all lighten what they weigh

In school, I’ll teach of choice and freedom, let every child be free
To grow to be a doctor too, or a teacher, just like me
