I am the walrus

I am the walrus, and you are the walrus, and everybody in the 21st century is the walrus.

This is because, Freya, the big and adorable friendly walrus in Oslo, Norway was so beloved by people, that she had to be put to death.

People are disconnected from Nature. People crowd around to take selfies. They are thrilled to see a wild animal. They get too close. They risk a bump from a 2,000 pound plus, bison, or walrus, or elephant, or hippo, or someone.

There are too many of us and very few of them.

People do not recognize this someone as an individual, with a life, with a world, with a family, sometimes. Freya was complete with needs: to be curious, to be wary, but most of all to be social — and concerned with survival in a world that has become entirely dominated by one species.

Freya is the Norse god of beauty and love
