I Want To Understand Eugenics
Many “good” ideas go horribly wrong

I am married to a eugenicist.
He does not want to sterilize “other races.” He knows there is just one.
He doesn’t want to dominate other people. He does want painless depopulation and more alternatives to gender roles. He does find racism useless, and counterproductive. He does believe in tools like CRISPR.
CRISPR, and other gene editing tools, will eventually help human beings avoid disease and potential defects.
The question always becomes “what is a defect in a racist, sexist, classist, ableist, and lookist, world?”
We argue a lot, and it’s rather stupid since we are both infertile and will never have a choice, ourselves.
Eugenics was a “science” of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Like all good ideas, it was co-opted by idiots, twisted into social Darwinism, and used not to better humankind, but to tyrannize us.
In the original idea, however, it meant “Good” (Eu is good in Latin, and “Genics” refers to genes).
