Omicron Barely Begun

Very Unpopular Strong Opinions Blog (Poetry!) by Christyl Rivers

Photo by Christyl Rivers (and Camus, sorta)

Earlier accounts of pestilence were given by Defoe
Plague inequality was predicted well by Poe

Later came some warnings by none other than Camus
And E-coli leaps into beef faster than you can “Moo”

Garret wrote “The Coming Plague” no one barely mentions
As we reduced funding of health and science interventions

We interfere with Nature’s ways, invade cow’s guts, and bats
And then we act surprised a virus should seek new habitats

It’s settled in to stay. Our whole world — it now inflicts —
Because now it’s in our psyche, and worst of all, in politics
