Break out of your self-imposed meme matrix

The time has come to put away our childish toys. The concept that we could be living in an advanced digital illusion, or floating about in vats while aliens control our simulated lives is a toy notion.

It was fun to be children in the 1990’s. To have Neato Neo. To think we could wear all black, or be as cool as Trinity, or as competently calm as Morpheus.

Thought experiments have their uses. People love illusions. Movies and stories tell us when we hold guns we are powerful and heroic. Sadly, as this week’s shooting proves once again, guns seldom solve any problems. They are chosen, primarily, by losers who see themselves as powerful and heroic, when in reality, they are just dangerous and stupid.

The imaginary hero is one story we love. Another is that, we’re all powerful but have no agency. It’s all controlled by external forces. These are memes based on what we want, not what is real.

We are not living lives generated by another intelligence. If we were, we would walk busy streets between our mundane data input work. Every…
