Roaring Rivers

While Artemis roars to the moon, we’re gone

We are off to meet more birds.

Yesterday we saw a heron soar over the lake. It was so cold.

It was so astonishing to know they go about their business of surviving — alone or in flocks — while we go about our business of politics, shopping, Musk and Bezos, banking and braying, and whatever it is that COP 27 is accomplishing to help them out.

Maybe?

Please write and tell me what birds you can see in your area.

Birds can spiritually connect us to the earth and sky. They also make much of our pollination base, either as food or as pollinators themselves.

They are disappearing at an alarming rate that scares me more than all the hurricanes, tornadoes, ice storms, floods, fires, and more combined.

I think more than every other animal, they can inspire us to act.

Look around and find them. Singing. Mating, Soaring. Fluttering. Calling. Feeding. Fluffing up against the cold. Migrating.

I hope each of you are inspired, and, that making the difference that you DO make, is something helpful for the birds, too.
