The Fantastic Boom Of A Thunder Storm During A Heat Wave
Under a May heat advisory, storms blasted into our lives

Light at the end of a torrid tunnel
Last night we had a terrific thunderstorm. We had been experiencing record-breaking heat for the past few days.
My just-planted fruit trees and some shrubs and flowers were struggling. It takes many hours to water everything in the place. The hose broke.
Late afternoon, finally.
Then the hot wave broke on the shore of our fever nightmares. The gusts threw about some pollen and seedlings. A teardrop pitter-patter of rain began. It came and went. As if the sky were trying to decide what we deserved.
Then the lights flickered. Off. On. Off a bit longer. On again. Dumb clocks flash panic because we all have too many computers in our kitchen appliances. Then the wind, the lightning glittering, the thunder soon after. The rumble growled like a toddler in a temper tantrum, trailing the light.
Relief. Some rain. But our storm lasted hours and was too interesting to let go of so we could sleep well. The sick cat didn’t like it.
