The most common emotional drudge tasks are cooking, cleaning, shopping, prepping for a social event. For example, while one spouse works on the bikes, boats, hobby, the other spouse has to make sure the toilet is clean and there will be plenty of food and beverages for the picnic. In my world, this still falls mostly to women.
If a person sees and recognizes the work done, they are more likely to praise the one who welded the group's bikes over the one who cleaned the toilet because it is more obvious that this person has great welding skills. (anyone can clean a toilet, but DO they?) Such invested work seldom fuels joy.
Must say, you have inspired me to write further on this invisibility part.
