Waste is sin. If you take more than your fair share of property, wealth, time, space, resources, trash, exploited people or places, you are selfish and exploitative.

It's a way of life we daily accept.

I think Jesus/Lao Tzu/Buddha and some others tried to explain this to people, but people like sin.
