Here is the American Ocelot.
Do you know any people you consider unattractive? By personality, or weight, or manners, or hostility? Well, you will love the ocelot, they have zero unattractive traits.
Many people, myself included, think big cats are the most beautiful animals on Earth; graceful, gorgeous, brilliant, loving, soft, curious, and alarmingly competent.
But there is a problem. There are about eight billion people — many of them unattractive — and possibly less than 120 ocelots in the USA, all of them gleaming and glorious.
I hate to see it this way, but it works out that we have millions more people throwing away the ranched cattle beef burgers from deforested ocelot land than we have even one rosette from a velvet coat of this highly threatened animal.
There was a PBS program, Nature, we watched last night about trying to save this small handful of surviving ocelots living in Texas. Texas has cattle ranches, private lands, political conflicts, and all sorts of people…
