Be careful what you wish for, but always wish for less of everything except truth

Gas lit

About a year ago, I wrote a piece hoping that gas would go up to $20 per gallon. Although this would hurt our household budget, I proposed it is one way to spark innovation, get to work on the smart grid, get people to stop going places, and encourage everyone to buy less stuff.

It’s a kick in the tank that could help us learn to interact, and to rely on one another. You know, get that community garden going instead of waiting on a broken supply chain.

What I did not wish for is record profits for oil giants and even more political division and finger-pointing. I remain optimistic that people will see the real threats, among these are storms, fires, and floods, but also civil unrest. Eventually, we will not allow ourselves to be gaslit so easily and so literally.

We are not yet to $20 per gallon. But what we do see is record profits for the polluters, continued subsidies in support of greenhouse gases, GHG, in the trillions (trillions!) of dollars, and more blame being put on political parties than on corporate profiteers who, in fact, are getting more public support and more public land.
